What you are probably thinking

Does everyone need the same calendar provider?

No. One person can use Google Calendar and the next iCloud through CalDAV. Availability is read from whatever they connected.

Can a closer block a single afternoon?

Yes. Exceptions sit next to the normal working week, so one free afternoon does not require rewriting your schedule.

Can the owner look inside a team member's account?

Yes, and every time it happens it is recorded in an audit log, so access is never invisible.
